11 Common Foscam Camera Problems and How To Fix Them

  1. How to Reset Foscam Camera

You might have been able to successfully set up your camera but might be facing some issues that require you to reset the Foscam camera, here’s how you can do it:

  • The reset button is usually located at the back of the camera in most the models
  • In case your model doesn’t have it on the back of the camera you can find it on the bundle of connectors. You will find a white button on the top of a black connector.
  • Hold down the reset button for 10 seconds and release it. Upon releasing it a voice notification will let you know if it is reconnected.
  • If you don’t hear the voice, press the button for 5 more seconds.

 How to set up a wireless connection for the Foscam camera

To configure the wireless connection to the Foscam IP camera, follow these steps:

  • Switch on the camera and connect it to a router with an Ethernet cable
  • Open the equipment search tool and log in to the web UI
  • Go to settings and navigate to the network then select wireless settings
  • In the wireless settings go to the ‘scan’ option. This will display the SSID
  • Choose your network from the SSID list
  • Enter the network password and click on the ‘save’ option
  • Disconnect the Ethernet cable and go back to the equipment selection tool
  • The camera will disappear and then reappear, this might take 1-2 minutes
  • A voice on the camera will notify when the connection is done

If your camera footage is lagging check whether the following is in place or not:

  • Make sure you have strong bandwidth as per your model
  • Encode- compression setting is H.265
  • On the POE make sure the camera mode is set correctly

  • Open your Foscam app and select ‘edit camera’
  • Select the camera with the problem
  • Tap the test button and wait for the test to finish
  • Tap on ‘done’ and now your camera is refreshed

  • Set up a static IP address for the camera
  • Login to your router
  • Click on ‘advance settings’ then go to the port forwarding page
  • Enter the camera’s HTTP code on the internal and external port range boxes
  • Input the cameras IP address on the internal IP address box
  • Go to see if the HTTP port is open
  • If yes, login to the camera remotely by WAN IP address and port from the web browser

If you are unable to access the Foscam camera locally it might be because:

  • You might have set up the camera without giving it a static IP address because of which the IP undress must have change enabling it to connect locally

  • Login to Foscam
  • Go to the administration page/ device management page
  • Select mail service setting from device management page list
  • Enter the details and click ‘save’
  • Now select a test from the same page and check if the process succeeded

  • After logging in to Foscam go to the administration page and select alarm service setting
  • Enable motion to detect armed
  • Select the details as per preference and click submit
  • Now select the time and days you want the feature to be active and hit submit
  • When the ‘alarm schedule success’ message will display, you are done

 Camera not connecting to the wireless router

If your camera is not connecting to a wireless router or keep getting disconnected follow these steps for Foscam troubleshooting:

  • Verify that the wireless signal is strong enough to connect to the camera
  • The frequency band of the wireless router must be 2.4 GHz
  • Remove special characters from the password, reset the password and attempt to connect again
  • If the above steps don’t work reboot the camera and the router
  • Repeat the configuration steps after performing the reboot


  • Foscam not working on a new router
  • The Wi-Fi network name and password are changed when you connect your camera to a new router
  • The subnet might also differ in the new and old router.
  • Check the subnet and if they are the same change the network username and password.
  • Now, restart the camera and it will connect with the new router.
